The Light of the Night

Michael Ackerman, Boris Eldagsen, Katrin Koenning, Alisa Resnik, Norbert Wiesneth

A camera has its own perception of the night, can penetrate darkness and make things visible that are otherwise invisible to the eye. The exhibition’s five artists explore the phenomenon of night and attain to new planes of consciousness and subconsciousness. Michael Ackerman’s works are a blend of documentary, autobiography and staged photography that are hallucinatory in effect. The ongoing series how to disappear completely by Boris Eldagsen combines surreal-seeming orchestrations with street photography. In her series Glow, Katrin Koenning alters the motif by illuminating it before a black and white background, thus opening the door to a new form of perception. One another is the title of a series by Alisa Resnik that describes Berlin’s seedy nightlife in pictures that are both existential and poetic. The photos of the series Shadow Republic by Norbert Wiesneth exaggerate the widespread streetlight system of Minsk.
