Europeans

Yamandú Roos

Yamandú Roos embarked on a series of fifteen journeys across Europe between 2005 and 2012. From Scandinavia to the Mediterranean, from Paris to Moscow, Roos’s photographs give voice to a highly personal search for magic in everyday encounters with people. His exploration is not concerned with frontiers, identity issues, or the traces history leaves behind, but a story about a man and his journey with an old red Peugeot 205 called ‘The Eagle’, wandering around the continent with a notebook, tent, and the modest aim of documenting his sojourns in photographs.
Faithful to the tradition of ‘straight photography’, Roos employs his camera as a kind of vehicle towards an almost physical confrontation with the realm of tangible human existence. His contact sheets tell simple stories about everyday events as well as the illusions and existential turmoil of a person travelling alone.
