The title of the exhibition is a reference to a collage by John Heartfield, born 125 years ago, which he made in June 1933. It shows a summit of Western European politicians before a background of a Europe that is falling apart at the seams. Heartfield’s commentary on the international situation is set in the context of the state of Europe in the year 2016.
For the European Month of Photography Berlin 2016, the Münzenberg Forum Berlin, of which FMP1 is a member, is putting on an international photography competition titled Alles in schönster Ordnung (Everything in the Best Order). In the exhibition, the wide range of works submitted join to form a new commentary on the dissonant events of our time. Outside the competition, individual photographers have been invited to take part in the exhibition with works addressing the theme, for instance the photographer Ekaterina Sevrouk with her series Fremd bin ich eingezogen (I moved in as a foreigner); referencing Romantic landscape paintings, she documents African migrants in the Salzkammergut in Austria.
The exhibition is in advance of the show montage_16 on Heartfield/Grosz, which takes place in November/December at FMP1.
