The photographic theme and location of this year’s BFF Triebwerk exhibition form a close symbiosis: reduction. In the landmarked Kant Parking Palace in Berlin-Charlottenburg, a masterpiece of New Objectivity, 56 BFF photographers from Berlin and Hamburg present works representing current developments in photography’s visual languages and narratives. This plurality of artistic positions testifies to the heightened relevance of both applied and free photography, and forms a panorama of contemporary photography. Taken out of their original context, the images unfurl their own individual statements. Whether or not a photograph was made in a commercial or artistic framework is often irrelevant; frequently, the difference can no longer be discerned. Throughout Europe, the Professional Association of Freelance Photographers and Film Creators stands for the highest level of photographic quality. BFF photographers make their mark on the visual appearance of renowned magazines and advertising campaigns, while many of the works find their way into galleries and museums.
