Hut, Fence and Horizon

Carola Vogt & Peter Boerboom, Joachim Brohm, Götz Diergarten, Gabriele Kostas, Ingar Krauss, Simone Nieweg, Andreas Weinand

The exhibition reflects humankind’s increasing efforts around the world to connect urban living with a life closer to nature and frames possibilities of finding oneself beyond the confines of urban existence. The photographers point their lens at situations where many find their temporary forms of paradise.
Simone Nieweg depicts the classic French vegetable garden with the delicate structure and coloration of its plants. Joachim Brohm introduces us to the cosy, boring world of the small gardens on the outskirts of Essen. Götz Diergarten’s documentation of Nowa Huta, the Polish steel factory outside Cracow, is amazing due to the free design of the garden buildings. In masterful black-and-white photography, Ingar Krauss turns his attention to the absurdity of private gardens. In a type of field research, Andreas Weinand follows three pensioners near Mülheim as they garden over the years. Gabriele Kostas depicts the playful use of garden accessories in a northern Italian cooperative. Carola Vogt and Peter Boerboom take us to adventurous forests in various regions of Europe.
