Louisa Clement, Anna Vogel, Moritz Wegwerth

Andreas Gursky has curated an exhibition with works by three of his graduating MFA students at the Kunstakademie Düsseldorf. The works of Anna Vogel, Louisa Clement and Moritz Wegwerth are linked by an experimental approach to photography. Anna Vogel digitally alters the inherent structures in what is frequently found image material; she works over their physical surface. Pictures taken in the photo studio reflect a deliberate game with the slickness of surfaces. Louisa Clement’s photographs explore a relation to time and space. Her images of seemingly banal samples of reality taken with an iPhone 5 – for instance the heads of dolls in storefront windows – manipulate perspective, colour and form to create geometric, abstract still lifes. Moritz Wegwerth’s photographs take the viewer to the boundaries of reality, fiction, abstraction and figuration. His works struggle with the flood of imagery in the media age while framing a historical reference to New Objectivity (Neue Sachlichkeit).
