Maxim Korotchenko

‘Fair photography’ is the name photographer Maxim Korotchenko gives to his photographic method, in which he does not directly engage with the persons portrayed or intervene in any way. He remains neutral, almost distanced, and avoids all subjectivity and empathy in order to give the protagonists the chance to unselfconsciously show themselves.
Born in 1982 in Astrachan, near the Caspian Sea, Korotchenko began taking photographs at the age of 28. He finds his motifs in his immediate environment, within the spheres of his various passions: for the workers in the factories, the farmers on their fields, the children of his native city.
In 2013, Maxim Korotchenko won the two competitions Best of Russia and Best Photographer (Russian Federation); he was a finalist in the 2015 Lens Culture Exposure Awards.
