Susanne Kriemann

ich bin, varım, je suis, evening glow: an archive of light from the future

Susanne Kriemann

Photography means ‘drawing with light’. Susanne Kriemann regards light as her artistic material. Through temporary ‘lighting’, the nighttime darkness of Körnerpark in Berlin’s Neukölln neighbourhood is transformed. At first, the gallery space is turned into a light sculpture. In this bright laboratory, Kriemann, together with residents, students and scientists, develops a pathbreaking illumination for the park. Lamps are designed and possibilities jointly investigated for generating the required electricity. A site-specific archive of images, memories and visions arises; all developments are documented photographically and integrated into a large model of the park. Bicycle riding and dancing make the new lamps and projections in the park shine. In the end, an experimental local twilight stretches out into a morning glow as everyone dances on pre-prepared floorboards. This incredible scene becomes a backdrop for a large participatory photo event.
