Abrie Fourie

Abrie Fourie wanders with his camera lens through four continents: Africa, Europe, Asia and America. Southern Africa is his familiar homeland. Asia and America he experiences as a visitor, while Europe and Berlin are his current domicile. He never sees cities and cultures as separated from each other, but creates spaces of association and picture that poetically overlap and intensify each other. He explores the routine and the familiar, and approaches the unknown with the same curiosity. His work is never about simply recording experiences. He circumscribes the relations between spaces, signs, and the self. The internationally renowned writer Ivan Vladislavić finds inspiration in the photographers’ works: his text will be read at the opening.
