The ubiquity of the portrait in the age of the Internet raises the question of its meaning and expression again in a radical way, since every creative and technically savvy individual can produce a self-portrait today and publish it online. How do photographic artists react conceptually and pragmatically to this fact in their works? The juxtaposition of different and innovative re-presentations of the photographic portrait is meant to stimulate discussion of exactly this question. How are photographic means used to reflect sociological (Magdalena Wimmer), anthropological (Laurence Aëgeter) and political (Boris von Brauchitsch) positions, for example? What solutions do expansions of portrait photography offer in installations (Falk von Traubenberg) or with objects added (Carina Linge)? What distorted presentations result from the anger some artists feel about their past (Aida Chehrehgosha)? And how do artists present themselves for the photographer (Mark Brandenburg for Oliver Mark)?
