Walking
Thorsten Kirchhoff
For almost a year Thorsten Kirchhoff could not leave his neighbourhood. His radius of movement was severely limited for 12 months after an illness and a number of operations. A very painful and long healing process followed. Kirchhoff went for endless walks in his neighbourhood in the Kreuzberg district of Berlin. The world was dull and hazy to him, as if he were moving through the streets in a cocoon. After a while he started taking pictures of this world – a world that he knew he would soon leave again – with his mobile phone, and eventually created more than 10,000 images. The Berlin-based photographer and recipient of several awards offers us a unique and special view of Kreuzberg.
