Crossing Compasses brings together young photographers from Nigeria and Germany in order to foster a creative intercultural exchange through images. Six students from the Department of Arts at Yaba College of Technology, Lagos, and six from the Neue Schule für Fotografie, Berlin, will be given the opportunity to travel in each other’s countries and to interpret their impressions in a series of photographs. The purpose of the Crossing Compasses project is to reflect the peculiarities of the given country without familiar stereotypes, and to demystify the ‘foreign’ through intercultural artistic collaboration. An exhibition and an accompanying publication will present the results of this reciprocal learning process to the public: Africa and Europe take a new look at each other, retiring popular clichés.
