The road to democratisation in Tunisia is rough and rocky. The aims of the January 2011 rebellion, such as the introduction of personal liberties, is proving more difficult than anticipated. The revolution is not over yet. The exhibition Bright Future offers an insight into the work of contemporary artists in post-revolutionary Tunisia. All of the artists were been witnesses or active participants in the historic changes of January 2011. In their artworks they respond to events in their social and political environment. They highlight conflicts that had been suppressed or conserved during the dictatorship and that now emerge after the revolution. They address antagonisms within society, contrasts between the traditional rural population and modern Western-oriented urban dwellers, conflicts between Tunisian men and women, and controversies between secularists and Islamic fundamentalists.
